In the manufacturing of orthopaedic devices, proper measurement of implant dimensions and tapers is crucial to ensure the implants can be fit correctly into place. Prosthesis inspection and verification during various stages of fabrication is used to guarantee the highest reliability without defects.
VisionGauge® Digital Optical Comparators (also known as Digital Profile Projectors or Contour Projectors) simplify orthopedic inspection while updating traditional comparator methods. Instead of template or transparency overlays, orthopedic devices are compared electronically to their CAD description. The CAD drawing is automatically, accurately scaled to match the system's optical magnification. Overlay alignment can be controlled with a 3-speed joystick, and a barcode reader allows users to quickly load a part's CAD drawing. Traditional back illumination produces sharp edge profiles of parts, while reflected illumination enables the operator to inspect the surface of the part.
VisionGauge® Digital Optical Comparators produce very high-resolution, undistorted digital images with crisp edges and a large depth of field. These systems have been designed around our VisionGauge® OnLine machine vision software to make the system both powerful and easy-to-use. Through VisionGauge® OnLine operators are able to accurately perform many types of measurements (with sub-pixel edge detection), database images and measurement results, annotate images, etc...
Different optical configurations are available to meet various magnification requirements, and these systems are available in both desktop and "rolling cart" configurations.
